Valley Inquiry Charter School is a K–8 International Baccalaureate World School serving students in the Salem-Keizer community through inquiry-based learning, student agency, and a commitment to the IB Learner Profile.
An IB education for grades K–8
VICS offers the IB Primary Years Programme for elementary students and the IB Middle Years Programme for middle school students, supporting inquiry, global-mindedness, and student action across grade levels.
What makes an IB education different?
Agency
Student agency is a core component of our IB program. Students are empowered to have choices in how they inquire, research, and show their learning in all topics and transdisciplinary units.
Action
Student action is a core component of our IB program. Students will be challenged regularly to take action in their classes, at home, at our school, and even in our community to help make the world a better place.
Attributes
All students are expected to model the IB Learner Profile attributes, which include being: Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-Minded, Caring, Courageous, Balanced, and Reflective.

As one of four charter schools sponsored by the Salem-Keizer Public Schools District, we work closely with SKPS to ensure we meet state standards, testing, safety, and social-emotional learning (SEL) requirements.

Valley Inquiry Charter School is a public charter school open to all students who live within Salem-Keizer School District boundaries. Admission is based on a lottery system, as mandated by Oregon state law.
Kindergarten Lottery
Families interested in kindergarten enrollment participate in the annual lottery process in the spring.
Grades 1–8 Waitlist
Families may submit an application at any time to be added to the waitlist for the grade they are seeking.
